Carla Houston rebelled against her mother and father (both Professors of Literature) when she turned 18 and applied to Harvard and was accepted into the MBA program. She went on to study law and passed the bar at 24 years old and was hired by a large Los Angeles firm with a 6-figure salary. She specialized in entertainment law. She was made a junior partner at 28 years old. She and Jeff had two children. Then Carla had a hysterectomy which turned out to be an unnecessary operation and she sued the hospital and won a 2 million dollar settlement for malpractice. She then suffered a severe depression the lasted for one year. She retired from her law practice and returned to her literary roots and began writing. She took the 2 million dollars and formed a charitable trust for the arts and humanities which funds grants for young artists and writers.
