poetry writing lesson plans
Do you have any fun ideas for projects or lesson plans for arts 8th grade language?

… or 7th grade reading? I just discovered days I'm about to have my own classroom from January 2. I have the rest of our Christmas break to prepare, which is a Just over a week. From now on, I have plans of the base unit for fiction (short story or drama) unit, a unit of fiction, poetry, vocabulary, grammar, speech, open-ended questions and writing the application (we have to cover for our tests of State). I do not have much detail planned and I left one half of the year anyway. I [some] ideas, assignments, worksheets, etc. from my own teaching of students, but I feel a little lost since I am far have met all the information that the previous teacher has covered. I know that I think once more about it, I'll able to move, but I'd still like advice, suggestions, plans, websites or anything that may help. From what I heard, it does not much at all, so I'm afraid I'll cram everything in.

Congratulations! I started our arts grade language teaching 8th in January so I know exactly what you are experiencing. In addition, I Teache 7th grade Reading / Language Arts now. To be honest, 8th grade was always my most difficult year of teaching yet. 8th Grade act cool and grown up, but they really want to have fun, try to make all lessons in a game. Your problem will be more difficult classroom management. You must be difficult. Because you came in the middle of the year, they will try to test you. They try to intimidate you grew up with law, but do not forget to call their parents. I forgot that one a lot. Do not worry about what the teacher taught them earlier, because since he / she may have know they were leaving, they may not have worked so hard. Plan on beginning to teach the most important things. Then, at the end of class they said they already knew, to give them a test or a quiz or play a game as an evaluation. If they seem to know, progress. If they do not review issues they do not seem to know and then move on. You might Primary ask if you can borrow previous plans teachers lesson if it is still very nervous. Really, keep searching on the internet they have the best ideas. I recommend this book "Caught Ya" by Jane Bell Keister. I used to teach grammar and it's really the only time where I focus only on grammar. It takes only 10-15 minutes of class time to the maximum. Really, you'll want to spend most of your time on writing, vocabulary and the things you mentioned. If they misbehave, you can ask them to write sentences. I know that sounds childish, but is the trick. Have them label the parts of speech of each word in the sentence. Part of speech is not something they need enough really teach on a regular basis. But if they misbehave, why not learn something they did not want them to learn make people want to behave and learn something they know they need to learn? Believe me they will hate. Having multiple strategies to remain calm yourslef and without stress. I made myself sick with stress my first semester with students 8 e. Also, take time to clssroom make your pleasant and a place you'll want to be the most time. Try to grade papers after school and during your period planning. You want to try to take as homework little as possible. This is not always possible, but you really need your home to be a quiet place to relax. Do not worry about cramming. You have only half a year and you are a new .. Everyone knows that. You are not completely responsible for their entire education in language arts. You will make many mistakes to accept, learn, go further. Try to consider This year's practice. I do not have many sites in the top of my head, but the best way to search is to type in what you have for example the "lesson plans Emily Dickinson" or "lesson plans Nikki Giovanni" "Freak the Mighty Lesson Plans" things like that. Last, and I am sorry to say but in my student teaching expereince tells you nothing. So please do not expect be the same. Its so different, if you are yourself. If you have questions email me because your first year sounds exactly like mine. i dhornhms@yahoo.com have a project I do, you can try if you have time, but you can save it for next year. Here are some sites you advising on the project of kindness. Middle schoolers want to do something worthwhile. http://www.actsofkindness.org/classroom/ http://www.actsofkindness.org/classroom/plans/index.asp http://www.actsofkindness.org/file_uploads/files/227_pdf.pdf http:/ / www.actsofkindness.org/file_uploads/files/117_pdf.pdf When I do, I also watch the movie "Pay It Forward. " Watch it first, however, you will need to fast forward through parts I thought of another project that works well with 8th grade. Ask them to design brochures for their own Sweet 16 party. In fact, I used "Super" for boys. They can design Flyers put pictures of cars, decorations, their room, then put the adjectives on the flyer. Then ask them to write a descriptive essay describing Part. Another project I am doing is to make design a trip. They must seek Milega, hotels, talk about the type of car they drive, establish a budget for their trip, talk about things they do to their destination. I actually did one with the 7th grade, but I was given the idea of a colleague who was with 8th graders. Anyway both love.
